Chrysomphalina aurantiaca was described from a collection made near Seattle and is a typical fall species in the PNW, but also can be found in spring. Apparently it is restricted to the PNW and northern California. Molecular analyses suggest that the other two chrysomphalinas are related relatively closely to the hygrocybes and Chromosera, so presumably C. aurantiaca is too.
